Austin Butler and Tom Holland are making a movie.
According to Deadline, the actors are attached to star in American Speed, an upcoming movie in development at Amazon MGM Studios. Oscar-winning producer Charles Roven (Oppenheimer) is attached to produce via his Atlas Entertainment banner alongside RD Whittington and Douglas Banker.
American Speed is based on “the true story of the Whittington brothers —three historically famous race car drivers, two of whom were part of the 1980s IMSA scandal, in which a number of drivers were charged with financing their racing activities with proceeds from drug smuggling, money laundering or tax evasion.” Dan Wiedenhaupt is writing the script. No director is attached just yet.
No word yet on when this might enter production. Holland has Spider-Man 4 and Christopher Nolan’s next movie to shoot next year, while Butler is currently filming the Darren Aronofsky thriller Caught Stealing. My best guess would be late 2025/early 2026.
We’ll keep you posted as more information becomes available.
