Prime Video is finally ready to cast Lara Croft for its upcoming live-action Tomb Raider series.

According to Deadline, Amazon MGM Studios has assembled a wishlist of accomplished young actors for the role of Lara Croft in Prime Video’s upcoming series adaptation of the Tomb Raider video game franchise that is being written and executive produced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones) and Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody) are poised to test for the part, while Emma Corrin (Deadpool & Wolverine) and Mackenzie Davis (Terminator: Dark Fate) are other names being eyed for the role, although they are not believed to be testing. Lara Croft was previously portrayed in live-action by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.

Tomb Raider was greenlit by Prime Video in May 2024. At the time, Amazon MGM Studios Head Jennifer Salke referred to the upcoming project as an “epic” and “globe-trotting” series. The live-action series is expected to launch a new Tomb Raider shared universe that will include a new live-action film and video game.

The Tomb Raider film and series will be developed by Amazon in association with Dmitri M. Johnson’s dj2 Entertainment, which holds the rights to the IP. This new live-action take on Tomb Raider comes after MGM lost the film rights to the franchise in July 2022, leading to its planned sequel to the 2018 Tomb Raider film being scrapped. Of course, this is all pretty comical considering Amazon now owns MGM.

Anyway, we’ll make sure to keep you posted on who ends up being cast as Lara Croft.
