It’s official: Cameron Diaz‘s acting hiatus is over.
Last year, Diaz starred in the Netflix action-comedy film Back in Action, marking her first movie role since 2014’s Annie. The actor will next appear in the Apple TV black comedy film Outcome, which is out tomorrow, April 10, and has Shrek 5, Bad Day, and an untitled Stephen Merchant film on the horizon.
Now, according to Deadline, Diaz has found another starring vehicle in a sequel to the 1989 cult comedy Troop Beverly Hills, which is in development at TriStar Pictures. Diaz will also produce alongside Katherine Power and Laurence Mark.
Plot details are under wraps, but Clea DuVall is set to direct from her own script. She is best known for her critically acclaimed lesbian Christmas rom-com Happiest Season.
Shelley Long starred in the original Troop Beverly Hills, which was based on events in the life of writer-producer Ava Fries. The comedy saw Long playing a pampered Beverly Hills housewife trying to prove to her daughter that she can rough it as a Wilderness Girls leader. No word yet on whether Long will be involved in the sequel.
Do you think Troop Beverly Hills needs a sequel? Would you rather see Cameron Diaz in a new Charlie’s Angels movie?
