Which ’80s or ’90s Action Movie Hero Could Have Easily Led Their Own TV Show?

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Our mission at SAW is to foster conversations about this thing we all love (or love to hate): film/TV. Many of our features are designed with you in mind. Your opinions, to be more to the point. You have ’em. We want to hear ’em.

Question of the Day (QOTD) is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a film/TV-related question that we put to you, the reader. The comments section below is like the feedback box at work; except, in this example, we actually read what you write and care about what you have to say.

In the ’80s and ’90s, it wasn’t unusual for a popular action movie to be turned into a children’s cartoon (especially if the movie was ultraviolent and R-rated). However, there weren’t many action movies that got a live-action series adaptation made for the same audience as the movie (adults). So, without spoiling my answer by explaining why this is today’s question, here it is: what action movie/hero from the ’80s and ’90s could have easily been turned into a television action-drama series?

So, I rewatched Cobra the other day, and it got me thinking that Los Angeles police Lt. Marion “Cobra” Cobretti could have easily headlined his own action show. Walk with me here. You cast David Hasselhoff as Cobretti. Knight Rider was just canceled, he’s a popular face, he looks like the TV version of Stallone.

The kicker is that Hasselhoff isn’t even in 75% of the show. The case of the week begins with some lower level cops/detectives investigating murder, rape, robbery, you name it. It’s only when the case proves too troublesome (like in the movie) that Cobretti would be called in to solve it as he saw fit, leading to an action-packed third act.

So what about you, screenagers? Got an action movie hero that would have been perfect for television?

I’ll see you in the trenches.
