Our mission at SAW is to foster conversations about this thing we all love (or love to hate): film/TV. Many of our features are designed with you in mind. Your opinions, to be more to the point. You have ’em. We want to hear ’em.
Question of the Day (QOTD) is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a film/TV-related question that we put to you, the reader. The comments section below is like the feedback box at work; except, in this example, we actually read what you write and care about what you have to say.
At the start of the month, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Paramount was eyeing a sequel to Days of Thunder, the 1990 NASCAR racing movie starring Tom Cruise. With Cruise’s time in the Mission: Impossible franchise possibly coming to an end, and Top Gun: Maverick making all sorts of money in 2022, it does seem like a no-brainer for Paramount to develop another legacy sequel to a classic Cruise movie.
However, some fans online think that Days of Thunder doesn’t need a sequel, so, the question I ask today is: which Tom Cruise movie actually needs a legacy sequel?
I’ll just come out and say it: The Color of Money. It was a sequel to The Hustler, so why not complete the trilogy with Cruise’s Vincent Lauria stepping into the Paul Newman role and mentoring a new pool prodigy? Days of Thunder isn’t going to get Cruise an Oscar, but a sequel to The Color of Money certainly might, especially since Newman won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his return as “Fast Eddie” in the 1986 movie.
So what about you, screenagers? Which Tom Cruise movie do you think Paramount should make a legacy sequel of instead of Days of Thunder?
I’ll see you in the trenches.
