Putting together my top 100 films of all time was one of the hardest tasks to do. Just when I thought I got there, I remembered a childhood classic. Then I shared my list with family, and they said what about x,y, and z… and I felt the need to start all over again. I thought it might be a good idea to start with a pool of options: IMDB’s top 250 films, add in every Pixar film, sprinkle a few musicals, and every film from the Disney Renaissance. Two problems arose. First, the rank engine I put these into meant I had to sort through over 700 either/or choices, and secondly, I landed up with critically lauded films that felt impersonal and left out oddball favourites of mine like “The Way Way Back”, “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty”, and “Crazy, Stupid, Love”. So, this is a personal compromise, and there are still ones not on this list that I wish were (sorry, “Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit”). Tomorrow, several may shift their position, but this is the list today. I hope they pique your curiosity, remind you of an old favourite, or rage-bate you into thinking “How the heck did THAT get there”. But most of all, I hope that it sparks conversation, because movies are nothing if they aren’t shared.
