The sequel to Alien: Romulus may have found its director.
According to Nexus Point News, Michael Sarnoski is being considered to direct the highly anticipated sequel to Alien: Romulus. Sarnoski is best known for the acclaimed drama Pig, starring Nicolas Cage, and the horror spinoff A Quiet Place: Day One. His next film is the Hugh Jackman-led The Death of Robin Hood for A24. Sarnoski is also attached to direct a film adaptation of the video game Death Stranding.
Fede Álvarez confirmed last year that he would not return to direct the Romulus sequel, telling TooFab, “We just finished the script, actually, for a sequel for Romulus. But I’m going to pass the torch on this one as director. I’m going to produce it with Ridley Scott. We’re going to produce it together and we’re right now trying to find a new filmmaker to come in.”
Plot details for the Romulus sequel remain under wraps, although the follow-up is expected to continue the story of Cailee Spaeny’s Rain and David Jonsson’s Andy. They were part of the six downtrodden young space colonists who encountered hostile creatures while scavenging a derelict space station in Romulus.
Romulus reinvigorated the Alien franchise for 20th Century Studios, grossing over $350 million worldwide and earning positive reviews from critics and fans. The franchise is also going strong on the small screen with Noah Hawley’s Alien: Earth on FX, which has been renewed for a second season.
Alien: Romulus is currently streaming on Prime Video.
