‘Beau Is Afraid’ in the First Trailer for the Ari Aster and Joaquin Phoenix Film

A24 has released an official trailer for Beau Is Afraid (formerly Disappointment Blvd.), an upcoming surrealist comedy horror film from Ari Aster. Let’s take a look.

I have no clue what to make of this film. It looks a bit too absurd for my tastes, but who knows?

Beau Is Afraid stars Joaquin Phoenix, Nathan Lane, Patti LuPone, Amy Ryan, Kylie Rogers, Parker Posey, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Hayley Squires, Michael Gandolfini, Zoe Lister-Jones, and Richard Kind.

Plot Synopsis:

Beau Is Afraid is a decades-spanning surrealist horror film set in an alternate present. Joaquin Phoenix plays Beau, an extremely anxious but pleasant-looking man who has a fraught relationship with his overbearing mother and never knew his father. When his mother dies, he makes a journey home that involves some wild supernatural threats.

Beau Is Afraid opens in theaters on April 21, 2023.
