Camila Cabello is ‘Cinderella’ in First Trailer

Prime Video has released an official trailer for Cinderella. The upcoming live-action fairy tale presents a new spin on the classic princess, which stars Camila Cabello in the titular role.

I already knew I wasn’t going to watch this, but damn was that trailer painful to watch. Painful dialogue aside, this looks like something Nickelodeon might release on its channels before a barrage of SpongeBob reruns.

And honestly, I’m sort of disappointed it doesn’t look a bit better. Kay Cannon (Pitch Perfect) wrote and directed the adaptation, and he’s done some good work before. The cast is also pretty great. I mean you can’t go wrong with Pierce Brosnan and Idina Menzel. The rest of the cast includes Minnie Driver, Nicholas Galitzine, Billy Porter, and, unfortunately, James Corden.

Look I like Corden as a TV host. I actually think he’s the best late night talk show host currently on air now that Conan is gone. But the man should not be an actor. Every performance of his is pure cringe.

Also, am I missing something or is it a rule now that you have to cast Corden in your musical? Cats. Prom. Let’s hope that three strikes and you’re out with Cinderella, Corden.

Plot Synopsis:

Cinderella is a musically-driven bold new take on the traditional story you grew up with. Our heroine (Cabello) is an ambitious young woman whose dreams are bigger than the world will allow, but with the help of her Fab G (Billy Porter), she is able to persevere and make her dreams come true.

Cinderella begins streaming September 3, 2021.
