‘Crimes of the Future’ Trailer: David Cronenberg Returns to His Horror Roots

NEON has released a new official trailer for Crimes of the Future, a new horror film from David Cronenberg starring Viggo Mortenson and Kristen Stewart. Let’s take a look:

I only just watched Cronenberg’s original Crimes of the Future (1970) in the last year or so, but this doesn’t look like a remake at all. It seems to be a brand new film with the same title. It DOES seem to be a return to form for Cronenberg, featuring body horror aplenty. It’s probably an opening day viewing for me – assuming it gets a wide release after it’s debut at Cannes.

In addition to Mortensen and Stewart, Crimes of the Future stars Léa Seydoux, Scott Speedman, Welket Bungué and Don McKellar.

Plot Synopsis:

As the human species adapts to a synthetic environment, the body undergoes new transformations and mutations. With his partner Caprice (Léa Seydoux), Saul Tenser (Viggo Mortensen), celebrity performance artist, publicly showcases the metamorphosis of his organs in avant-garde performances. Timlin (Kristen Stewart), an investigator from the National Organ Registry, obsessively tracks their movements, which is when a mysterious group is revealed… Their mission – to use Saul’s notoriety to shed light on the next phase of human evolution.

Crimes of the Future will be released some time in 2022.

What do you folks think? Looking forward to a new horror film from one of the masters?

Would like to be mysterious but is instead, at best, slightly ambiguous.
