Sacha Gervasi has assembled one hell of a cast for his high-concept comedy drama, Darlington.

According to Deadline, Renée Zellweger, Peter Dinklage, and Dominic Sessa have been cast in Darlington. A Spring 2027 production start in the UK is being planned for the Rocket Science, Monumental Pictures, and Portobello Electric production. Alexander Payne, who directed Sessa in The Holdovers, will executive produce Darlington.

Gervasi will direct from his own screenplay. The movie centers on Zellweger’s Kate Spencer, an actress long forgotten by the industry who is invited to reprise her most famous role — not in a revival of the show, but in the actual world where a reclusive tech billionaire (Sessa) has meticulously restored an English country estate to its former glory. Having retreated from the world, he now lives his life there in the fantasy that it is actually 1923. As Kate settles into this strange, controlled existence, she discovers that illusion and reality are far more entwined than she ever imagined.

Zellweger recently starred in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy and is currently in production on the feature film A Woman in the Sun. Sessa earned praise earlier this year for his performance as Anthony Bourdain in Tony. He’s currently filming Miami Vice ’85.

Dinklage, meanwhile, was just in Wicker. Darlington will reunite the actor with Gervasi, having starred in the filmmaker’s previous film, My Dinner with Hervé.

Are you familiar with Gervasi’s previous work? What do you think of the plot for Darlington? Are you seated or not?
