And just like that… Nicole Ari Parker has joined the cast of Lanterns in a recurring role.
According to Variety, the actor — who is best known for playing Lisa Todd Wexley in the Sex and the City sequel series And Just Lile That… — will recur in Lanterns as John Stewart’s mother Bernadette. The official character description for Bernadette reads as follows: “Formidable and tenacious, Bernadette refuses to give up, no matter how insurmountable the odds. At her core, she’s a fiercely protective mother who has worked her entire life to ensure that she and her family will not be passed over.”
Parker joins a cast that includes Kelly Macdonald as Sheriff Kerry, Garrett Dillahunt as William Macon, Poorna Jagannathan as Zoe, Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro, and, of course, Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre as series leads Hal Jordan and John Stewart, respectively. A first look at Chandler and Pierre in Lanterns was released last month to commemorate the start of production on the DC Universe series.
What Is Lanterns About?
Lanterns was part of the initial DC Universe slate that DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran unveiled in January 2023. HBO handed out a series order to the show, based on the Green Lantern comics, in June 2024. The creative team for Lanterns consists of Damon Lindelof, Tom King, and Chris Mundy, the latter of whom will also serve as showrunner.
In Lanterns, Chandler’s Hal Jordan is a “seasoned Lantern approaching retirement” who is training Pierre’s John Stewart to be his replacement. The pair investigate a murder in Nebraska – one that “leads them to still darker mysteries, as well as reckonings.”
The first season of Lanterns will consist of eight episodes. James Hawes will helm the first two episodes, with Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Alik Sakharov handling the remainder of the season.
Lanterns is expected to premiere on HBO in 2026.
