Disney has made some massive changes to its release calendar, with the biggest moves involving Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Marvel Studios has delayed the next two Avengers films, with Doomsday moving from May 1 to December 18, 2026, and Secret Wars going from May 7 to December 17, 2027. According to Deadline‘s insiders, the delays were made to “allow more time to execute on a gargantuan vision,” with the new December release dates selected in part because of the success Spider-Man: No Way Home had at the box office after debuting during that month back in 2021.
Additionally, three release dates previously slotted for “Untitled Marvel” movies have been removed: February 13, 2026, November 6, 2026, and November 5, 2027. With only a July 23, 2027 release date remaining for an “Untitled Marvel” movie, this means that 2026 and 2027 will only see two MCU movies released each year, instead of the typical 3 (or rare 4).
Other changes made to Disney’s release calendar include dating two 20th Century Studios movies: Ridley Scott’s post-apocalyptic thriller The Dog Stars, starring Jacob Elordi, for March 27, 2026, and The Devil Wears Prada 2 for May 1, 2026. James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water will also be re-released in theaters on October 3, 2025, ahead of Fire and Ash‘s December 19 debut.
