‘Freaky Friday 2’ Officially Happening at Disney

Freaky Friday 2 is officially in development at the Mouse House.

According to Variety, Nisha Ganatra has been tapped to direct the upcoming sequel for Disney. She is best known for directing the films Late Night (2019) and The High Note (2020), as well as episodes of Hulu’s Welcome to Chippendale’s.

Additionally, Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are in talks to reprise their roles from the 2003 original. However, since both actors have repeatedly expressed interest in, and pushed for, a sequel, it seems like a done deal. Curtis has already teased the sequel on her Instagram.

While plot details remain under wraps, Ganatra shared to her Instagram Story (via Entertainment Weekly) an open casting call to fill the new role of Anna’s 14-year-old daughter, Harper, who is described as “a tomboy with a sharp sense of humor” who’s “in a bit of a mood these days because her longtime single mom is set to marry British restaurateur Eric Davis.”

According to the description, Eric also has a 14-year-old daughter, Lily, who does “not see eye to eye” with Harper. The audition sides strongly hint that Lohan’s Anna will swap places with Harper, while Curtis’ Tess will trade bodies with Lily.

Andrew Gunn, who produced the first film, is producing the sequel, along with former Disney executive Kristin Burr. At this time, it is unknown if Freaky Friday 2 will be released in theaters or on Disney+.
