New ‘Game of Thrones’ Prequel About Aegon’s Conquest in Development

A new Game of Thrones spinoff series is in development at HBO.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO has partnered with writer Mattson Tomlin for a prequel series centered around Aegon’s Conquest. What is Aegon’s Conquest? Well, apparently, it’s about “the Targaryen’s bloody and brutal conquest of Westeros. The story follows the invader Aegon Targaryen, who conquered the continent of Westeros with his sister wives, Rhaenys and Visenya, and their dragons. Aegon successfully unified six of the Seven Kingdoms in just two years, with only Dorne able to successfully resist.”

Since Game of Thrones concluded in 2019, HBO has desperately tried to build a franchise off George R.R. Martin’s work. House of Dragon, the first spinoff series to actually make it to air, was a major success, ensuring that we will never be without a new Thrones series for the rest of our lives.

As for Tomlin, he’s become somewhat of a hot commodity in Hollywood. He did uncredited work on Matt Reeves’ The Batman and is co-writing its upcoming sequel, The Batman Part II. He also wrote the Keanu Reeves action comic adaptation BRZRKR and an animated Terminator series for Netflix.

Besides Aegon’s Conquest, HBO has A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, based on Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas, set to begin production later this year. House of the Dragon Season 2 also returns in a few months.

Are you excited for another Game of Thrones prequel or would you rather see HBO develop more original ideas?
