‘Terminator’ Anime Series in the Works at Netflix

According to THR, the T-800 will live to fight another day.

Netflix and Skydance are teaming up to produce an anime-styled Terminator series based on the James Cameron-created science-fiction franchise of the same name.

Mattson Tomlin, who co-wrote the upcoming DC movie The Batman and Netflix’s Project Power, will act as showrunner and executive producer. The series is being produced in partnership with Production I.G. The Japanese anime studio has had a production line deal with Netflix since 2018 and has worked on Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 and B: The Beginning with the streaming service.

The anime series will be the latest in that franchise that already has six films, a live-action TV series, and a couple of web shorts. So far, no details on the series were revealed, but Tomlin did tease the following:

“Anyone who knows my writing knows I believe in taking big swings and going for the heart. I’m honored that Netflix and Skydance have given me the opportunity to approach Terminator in a way that breaks conventions, subverts expectations and has real guts.”

I actually enjoyed Dark Fate, so wouldn’t mind seeing the anime series follow that timeline, but I’m open to anything.

What do you guys think about an anime Terminator series? Do you think this could revitalize the franchise?
