After a decade of stops and starts, Gremlins 3 is finally a go at Warner Bros. Pictures.
Per Variety, Warner Bros. has set a November 19, 2027 release date for Gremlins 3, which will see Chris Columbus in the director’s chair. Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein (Final Destination Bloodlines) are writing the screenplay. Steven Spielberg will executive produce. All other details, including a plot description and anyone starring in the film, haven’t been disclosed.
“Few titles are as beloved and iconic as Gremlins, and we’re beyond excited to bring it back for both lifelong fans and a whole new generation,” Warner Bros. Pictures’ president of development and production Jesse Ehrman said in a statement. “It’s a privilege to be working alongside Steven [Spielberg], Chris [Columbus], and the entire creative team, and we look forward to audiences experiencing the next installment of the magic, mayhem, and heart of Gremlins on the big screen in 2027.”
The first Gremlins movie was released in 1984, with a sequel, subtitled The New Batch, following in 1990. Both were directed by Joe Dante. For the unaware, Columbus wrote the screenplay for the original, so it’s somewhat of a full-circle moment for him to be able to direct a Gremlins.
We’ll keep you posted as more information about this long-awaited threequel becomes available.
