HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’ Remake Rounds Out Cast as Filming Begins Ahead of 2027 Debut

Daniel who? A whole new generation is about to grow up with Dominic McLaughlin as their Harry Potter, as HBO‘s upcoming series adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter is now in production.

HBO announced the filming update by sharing a first look at McLaughlin in costume as Harry Potter, which can be viewed below. Production is underway at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, UK. Additionally, an updated release window has been shared, with a 2027 debut on HBO and HBO Max now being targeted.

The ensemble cast for Harry Potter has also been rounded out. Rory Wilmot has been added as Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander, and Louise Brealey as Madam Rolanda Hooch. Who Else is Starring in Harry Potter?

These four new actors, and McLaughlin, join the previously announced Arabella Stanton (Hermione Granger), Alastair Stout (Ron Weasley), John Lithgow (Albus Dumbledore), Janet McTeer (Minerva McGonagall), Paapa Essiedu (Severus Snape), Nick Frost (Rubeus Hagrid), Luke Thallon (Quirinus Quirrel), and Paul Whitehouse (Argus Filch).

The cast also includes Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown, Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley, Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley, and Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge.

The first season of Harry Potter will be based on Rowling’s first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, which was published in the States as Sorcerer’s Stone. Francesca Gardiner will serve as showrunner and executive producer, with Mark Mylod tapped to direct multiple episodes and executive produce.

Harry Potter will premiere on HBO and HBO Max in 2027.
