Green Lantern (2011) is widely regarded as one of the more disappointing superhero films of the early 2010s. Critics and audiences heavily criticized its weak script, inconsistent tone, awkward dialogue, underdeveloped supporting characters, and especially the heavy reliance on CGI. One of the biggest issues was the digital green suit that many found unconvincing and dated even at the time. The film’s attempts at origin-story world-building often felt rushed or cluttered, and it struggled to balance cosmic spectacle with grounded character drama, contributing to its reputation as a major misfire for the DC brand and a box-office underperformer relative to its budget and expectations.
On the positive side, Ryan Reynolds brings natural charisma and humor to the role of Hal Jordan, hinting at the comedic strengths he would later fully unleash in Deadpool. The film’s visual ambition and cosmic scale have some defenders who appreciate the attempt to bring a big, colorful Green Lantern mythos to the screen, and certain action sequences and supporting performances (including Mark Strong as Sinestro) still hold a degree of entertainment value. Over time, a portion of viewers have come to regard it as a flawed but earnest blockbuster with “so-bad-it’s-fun” rewatch appeal rather than a complete disaster.
So what do you think? Is Green Lantern overhated or not? Vote and let us know your answer below!
