‘Karate Kid: Legends’ Trailer: Two Branches, One Tree

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Sony Pictures has released an official trailer for Karate Kid: Legends, the upcoming sixth theatrical installment in the long-running martial arts series, as well as the first to feature both franchise leads: Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan. Let’s take a look.

I’m so behind on The Karate Kid, so call me crazy, but I think this actually looks good. It doesn’t feel weird that the 2010 reboot is now part of the original canon. Ben Wang looks like he’s got the acting chops to be a great protagonist. I guess it’s time I catch up on this franchise.

Karate Kid: Legends also stars Joshua Jackson, Sadie Stanley, and Ming-Na Wen.

Plot Synopsis:

In Karate Kid: Legends, after a family tragedy, kung fu prodigy Li Fong (Ben Wang) is uprooted from his home in Beijing and forced to move to New York City with his mother. Li struggles to let go of his past as he tries to fit in with his new classmates, and although he doesn’t want to fight, trouble seems to find him everywhere. When a new friend needs his help, Li enters a karate competition – but his skills alone aren’t enough. Li’s kung fu teacher Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) enlists original Karate Kid Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) for help, and Li learns a new way to fight, merging their two styles into one for the ultimate martial arts showdown.

Karate Kid: Legends opens in theaters on May 30, 2025.
