Len Wiseman Tapped For ‘John Wick’ Spin-off ‘Ballerina’

Well here you go folks, the world of John Wick is officially getting another expansion pack. Lionsgate has picked Len Wiseman to direct Ballerina, an action spin-off set in the world of John Wick based on a ten/fifteen minute scene (tops) in the most recent film of the popular franchise.

Ballerina will tell the story a young female assassin who seeks revenge against the people who killed her family. The picture has been fast tracked, and will be written by Shay Hatten, whose credits include the upcoming Zack Snyder Netflix movie Army of the Dead and of course John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.

Like I said before, this female character was briefly seen in Parabellum after John Wick fights his way through a bunch of assassins until he reaches the Director (Anjelica Huston), a woman from his past who used to raise him. But apparently this film has been quietly in the works since 2017. It’s unclear if Keanu Reeves will actually be in the film, or if it’s just a cameo.  I’m leaning towards the latter. But it would be nice to see Huston back as the Director. Unity Phelan was credited as the character “Ballerina”, but who knows who will actually star in the spin-off.

I’m not sure how I really feel about Wiseman taking the reigns on this one. The Underworld movies were not really all that great and while Live Free or Die Hard wasn’t awful it does have two incredibly cringe worthy scenes in it that I don’t know how anyone (including Bruce Willis) allowed to be put on film. I think he should stick to TV where he belongs.

Ballerina has no release date yet but John Wick: Chapter 4, set for release on May 21, 2021.

What do you guys think? Do you think the world of John Wick is growing in the right way? Personally, I’m more excited for the Continental TV show.
