After playing Jason Voorhees’ mother in A24’s upcoming Crystal Lake, Linda Cardellini will remain in the horror genre for her next feature film.
According to Deadline, Cardellini has closed a deal to join Bill Hader in They Know from MRC. The upcoming horror film will serve as Hader’s feature directorial debut. Hader also wrote the screenplay, which is based on an original story he created with Duffy Boudreau. Production kicked off today in Los Angeles.
“They Know centers on a divorced dad (Hader) who grows suspicious that his ex-wife (Cardellini) is secretly dating a mysterious man who is having a strange influence on their children,” per the logline.
Cardellini got her start in Hollywood in 1999 with a starring role in the short-lived teen drama Freaks & Geeks. In the 2000s, she played Velma Dinkley in the live-action Scooby-Doo movies, and also starred in Legally Blonde and Brokeback Mountain. Her other film credits include Daddy’s Home, The Founder, Green Book, and Avengers: Age of Ultron.
She can currently be seen starring alongside Jason Bateman and David Harbour in DTF St. Louis, an HBO dark comedy from creator Steven Conrad. Looking ahead, she will be seen later this year in the Apple/Skydance film Way of the Warrior Kid, opposite Chris Pratt. She will also play Pamela Voorhees in A24’s Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake for Peacock.
