Jude Law Is a Young Putin in ‘The Wizard of the Kremlin’ Trailer

Vertical has released an official trailer for The Wizard of the Kremlin. The political thriller dark comedy film is based on the 2022 novel of the same name by Giuliano da Empoli.

Olivier Assayas directed The Wizard of the Kremlin from a screenplay he co-wrote with Emmanuel CarrèreJude Law and Paul Dano lead the movie, with Alicia Vikander, Will Keen, Tom Sturridge, and Jeffrey Wright also starring.

Plot Synopsis:

In the chaos of post-Soviet Russia, rising KGB officer Vladimir Putin (Jude Law) joins forces with master manipulator Vadim Baranov (Paul Dano) to reshape life behind the Iron Curtain, using violence and deception to change the world forever. Putin and Baranov’s reign of chaos begins with lies and corruption, and quickly escalates to assassinations, tyranny, and eventually all-out war.

The Wizard of the Kremlin opens in theaters on May 15, 2026.
