Movie Madness Tournament: And the Best Picture Winner Is…

And the winner is…

The Godfather II (1974)

Director: Francis Ford Coppola

Written by: Francis Ford Coppola and Mario Puzo

Stars: Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Robert Duvall

The early life and career of Vito Corleone in 1920s New York City is portrayed, while his son, Michael, expands and tightens his grip on the family crime syndicate.

The Road to the Championship

Considered one of the greatest movies of all time and one of the odds-on favorites to win, The Godfather II steamrolled to the finals beating The Hurt Locker, West Side Story, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, and Schindler’s List by an average score of 17-4. However, it would face a battle in the championship matchup as Silence of the Lambs showed up to topple the Corleone family only to come up one vote short of taking the title. The Godfather II would defeat Silence of the Lambs 12-11 to be crowned the greatest Best Picture Winner of all the times!

Were you shocked by the winner or did you see this coming all along? Were there any surprises during this tournament of certain movies winning or losing? Did this tournament introduce you to any movies or make you add any to your watchlist?
