It’s official: Noah Baumbach is leaving Netflix after almost a decade.
According to Variety, the Oscar-nominated writer and director has signed a three-year, first-look agreement for features at Warner Bros. Pictures. The new deal takes effect in 2027, with Baumbach’s inaugural project set to be released as part of the studio’s new indie label Clockwork.
Baumbach will write, direct, and produce the film. Details are being kept under wraps, though sources familiar with the script say it follows two college students in New York City. The untitled film will receive a wide theatrical release, something Baumbach never got with his last four films — The Meyerowitz Stories, Marriage Story, White Noise, and Jay Kelly.
Warner Bros. confirmed the deal but provided no additional details on the new Clockwork film. The indie label is quickly making a name for itself, though. In addition to Baumbach’s untitled film, Clockwork will release Sean Baker’s Anora follow-up, Ti Amo!, an Italian sex set to begin filming in January.
