‘Our Friend’ Trailer: A Heartbreaking Dramedy Based on a True Story

Gravitas Ventures and Universal Home Entertainment has released an official trailer for Our Friend. The film is a true story starring Jason Segel, Casey Affleck, and Dakota Johnson.

Our Friend is one of those films that looks like it could be nominated for Oscars, but probably won’t receive any. I always thought Segel was the best actor out of his How I Met Your Mother cast, and I truly think all he needs is one amazing dramatic performance to push him into another bracket of stars. He’s been doing some great indie work in recent years. I thought The End of the Tour, where he received critical acclaim for his portrayal of David Foster Wallace, might finally earn him some awards attention, but nada.

And Casey Affleck and Dakota Johnson are in this, too. So, that’s cool if you like them.

Plot Synopsis:

OUR FRIEND tells the inspiring and extraordinary true story of the Teague family—journalist Matt (Casey Affleck), his vibrant wife Nicole (Dakota Johnson) and their two young daughters—and how their lives are upended by Nicole’s heartbreaking diagnosis of terminal cancer. As Matt’s responsibilities as caretaker and parent become increasingly overwhelming, the couple’s best friend Dane Faucheux (Jason Segel) offers to come and help out. As Dane puts his life on hold to stay with his friends, the impact of this life altering decision proves greater and more profound than anyone could have imagined.

Our Friend hits theaters and On Demand January 22, 2021.
