Peacock, NBCUniversal’s streaming service, has launched! Well, sort of. Xfinity customers received early access to the service on April 15. The rest of us have to wait until July 15, 2020. But that’s only a couple months away, so Peacock has begun rolling out teasers for all their upcoming originals. Two that caught my eye were their Saved by the Belland Punky Brewster revivals.
Peacock is definitely hoping children of the ’80s and ’90s will subscribe to see some familiar faces. Saved by the Bell will reunite Mario Lopez, Elizabeth Berkley, Tiffani Amber Thiessen, and Mark-Paul Gosselaar as their characters A.C. Slater, Jessie Spano, Kelly Kapowski, and Zack Morris. However, the series will be focusing on some of their kids, particularly Jessie’s son Jamie, and Kelly and Zack’s son Mac.
Meanwhile, Punky Brewster not only has Soleil Moon Frye back in the lead role, but Peacock has went for some late ’90s/early ’00s nostalgia as well by having Freddie Prinze Jr. star as Brewster’s ex-husband Travis.
I have no emotional or childhood connection to either of these series, but I sort of want to watch them nonetheless. Is that crazy?
At the time, it is unknown if either series will be available at launch due to COVID-19 delaying a number of upcoming projects. We’ll keep you posted when we know more. But for now, you can watch the rest of the trailers Peacock released (including a Madagascar prequel) here.
Screenagers, what do you think of the revival trailers? Did you watch either series as a kid? Will you introduce your kids to the revivals?
