American filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Singer, died at their Brentwood home in California on Friday, Variety has confirmed. He was 78.

The deaths are being investigated as a homicide, according to the LAPD. The couple was reported to have been stabbed to death. According to PEOPLE, multiple sources have confirmed that they were killed by their son, Nick, who has previously spoke publicly about his long battle with drug addiction and periods of homelessness. This is a developing story…

Reiner’s career spanned more than six decades. He first came to national prominence as an actor, playing the role of Mike “Meathead” Stivic on the CBS sitcom All in the Family (1971–1979), a performance that earned him two Primetime Emmy Awards.

However, Reiner is perhaps best known for having arguably one of the best runs ever for a director. He made his directorial film debut with This Is Spinal Tap (1984), which he followed up with The Sure Thing (1985), Stand by Me (1986), The Princess Bride (1987), When Harry Met Sally… (1989), Misery (1990), and A Few Good Men (1992).

Let’s pay our respects to Rob Reiner by sharing some of our favorite scenes, movies, etc. from his extensive filmography. Rest in Peace.
