Simon Kinberg Tapped to Script New ‘Star Wars’ Trilogy

The Skywalker Saga may not be over.

According to Deadline, Simon Kinberg has closed a deal with Lucasfilm to write, produce, and develop a trilogy of Star Wars movies. It’s a bit “he said, she said” when it comes to whether this trilogy will comprise Episodes 10 to 12 of the Skywalker Saga. Deadline says he’s heard it will, but also says that other insiders have told him it won’t and will begin “a new saga” instead.

Kinberg is of course best known within Lucasfilm for co-creating Star Wars Rebels with Dave Filoni and Carrie Beck, as well as serving as a creative consultant on Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015). We don’t need to talk about the rest of his filmography.

Now, insider Jeff Sneider is stating that there’s a good chance Daisy Ridley‘s Rey will appear in this new trilogy as “the Obi-Wan.” Now whether that means the previously announced solo spinoff film that was set to be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is dead or just on hold remains to be seen.

Lucasfilm has struggled to figure out how to bring Star Wars back to the big screen, opting instead to tell the galaxy’s stories on Disney+. However, Star Wars has made too much money at the box office to let sit by the wayside for too long, so it looks like it’ll make a grand return sooner than later (okay, in 2026, since The Mandalorian & Grogu is already in post-production).

We’ll keep you posted as we learn more.
