Slipstream is a movie I grew up on — one I watched with my dad, rented on VHS, and kept coming back to even though I couldn’t quite explain why. Though produced by famed Star Wars producer Gary Kurtz and directed by Tron helmer Steven Lisberger, Slipstream never worked the way it was supposed to, there was always something in it that brought me back to it again and again.
Recently, I finally sat down and tried to understand it and it turns out this forgotten sci-fi oddity was aiming for something a whole lot bigger than hot air and gliders—something downright biblical.
Here’s my deep dive into the movie that reaches for the heavens…but crashes and burns.
Have you seen Slipstream? Is it a hidden sci-fi gem or a turd that should be left in the dustbin of VHS history? Let us know your thoughts below. See ya in the wasteland!
