James Gunn‘s Superman: Legacy is no more.
Okay, maybe I shouldn’t sound so dramatic. The first film in the DC Universe is still happening. In fact, it just started production today, February 29, which just so happens to be the Man of Steel’s birthday. Who knew? Not me!
What I meant is that Superman: Legacy is no longer the title of Gunn’s upcoming reboot. Moving forward, the movie will simply be known as Superman.
Gunn shared the news on Instagram alongside a first look at the title hero’s costume:
” Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday. When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN. Making our way to you July 2025.”

So far, the confirmed cast for Superman includes David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Kal-El/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt/Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason/Metamorpho, and María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica/The Engineer.
Sean Gunn and Milly Alcock are also expected to appear as Maxwell Lord and Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, respectively.
Written and directed by Gunn, Superman is now in production and is slated to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
What do you think of the Superman emblem? Are you a fan? Are you excited for Gunn’s reboot?
