Step aside, Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, there’s a new Lara Croft in town.
According to Deadline, Sophie Turner has been tapped to play Lara Croft in Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming live-action series, Tomb Raider, which is in development for Prime Video. She will become the third actor to portray the character in live-action after Jolie (who starred in two movies in the early 2000s) and Vikander (who played the role in the 2018 reboot).
Tomb Raider was greenlit by Prime Video in May 2024, with Phoebe Waller-Bridge writing the series, in addition to serving as an executive producer. At the time, Amazon MGM Studios Head Jennifer Salke referred to the upcoming project as an “epic” and “globe-trotting” series. The live-action series is expected to launch a new Tomb Raider shared universe that will include a new live-action film and video game. The Tomb Raider film and series will be developed by Amazon in association with Dmitri M. Johnson’s dj2 Entertainment, which holds the rights to the IP.
What do you think of Sophie Turner as Lara Croft? Do you think she was the best actor for the job?
