‘Uncharted’ Trailer: Fortune Favors the Bold

Sony has released an official trailer for Uncharted, the upcoming adaptation of the popular PlayStation video game series. Let’s take a look and see if this will have been worth the wait.

Well, Sony is definitely feeling bold with this film. Oof, does this look rough. The best moments in the trailer are when it’s blatantly copying the video game series’ set pieces.

I was always iffy on Tom Holland as Nathan Drake and this trailer didn’t help. He may look like a young Nathan Drake, but he sure as hell doesn’t sound like one. And where is Sully’s moustache? Can Mark Wahlberg not grow facial hair?

I’ll still watch this in theaters, but I’m not expecting it to be very good. Hopefully a future trailer will change my mind or else the movie’s possible box office fortune is going to be lost at the bottom of the deep sea.

In addition to Holland and Wahlberg, Uncharted also stars Antonio Banderas, Sophia Ali, and Tati Gabrielle.

Plot Synopsis:

Based on one of the best-selling, most critically acclaimed video game series of all time, Uncharted introduces audiences to the young street-smart Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) and showcases his first treasure hunting adventure with wisecracking partner Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg). In an action-adventure epic that spans the globe, the two go in dangerous pursuit of “the greatest treasure never found” while also tracking clues that may lead to Nathan’s long-lost brother.

Uncharted hits theaters February 18, 2022.
