QUESTION OF THE WEEK
With Rutger Hauer passing away this week, what are some of your favorite movies and roles of his?
MOVIES WATCHED THIS WEEK
Crawl (2019)
“A young woman, while attempting to save her father during a category 5 hurricane, finds herself trapped in a flooding house and must fight for her life against alligators.”
This was a fun creature feature. You know what you are getting going into this movie and it’s your typical popcorn flick. Nothing special or memorable but worth a watch if you like these type of movies. Had some solid tense moments with enough gore. I would have liked more from the ending. It’s always great to see Barry Pepper. (3.25/5)
Whiplash (2014)
“A promising young drummer enrolls at a cut-throat music conservatory where his dreams of greatness are mentored by an instructor who will stop at nothing to realize a student’s potential.”
J.K. Simmons is so fantastic in this movie and gives an all-time performance, but man, does this movie get me riled up. I just can’t for the life of me understand how any of these people can just sit there and take his crap. We would have been fighting the moment he threw the chair at me. Movie over right there. (4.5/5)
Drag Me To Hell (2009)
“A loan officer who evicts an old woman from her home finds herself the recipient of a supernatural curse. Desperate, she turns to a seer to try and save her soul, while evil forces work to push her to a breaking point.”
This is such a fun horror comedy. I watch this movie at least a couple of times a year and it never gets old. One of the best PG-13 horror movies out there. Raimi just blends a sense of dreaded horror with comedy like a champ. It simply entertaining as hell. (4/5)
Airplane! (1980)
“A man afraid to fly must ensure that a plane lands safely after the pilots become sick.”
They just don’t make movies like this anymore. Mainly because they can’t with how sensitive everyone is today. This movie would have been walked out of with a boycott protest forming within the first 15 minutes of the film. It has been years since I have seen and it made me laugh harder this time around than it did with previous viewings. (4.5/5)
SHOWS WATCHED THIS WEEK
