To celebrate our seventh anniversary, the ScreenAge Wasteland team is sharing individual lists of our 100 favorite films of all time. Explore the full collection here.
My love for movies started when I was young, but it really didn’t grow and expand until I was an adult. I grew up in a deeply religious sect where any non-religious media consumption was heavily scrutinized, so I wasn’t allowed to see much. Even still, movies like The Prince of Egypt and Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope stuck with me, and I demanded to watch them again and again. My parents clamped down harder, limiting my time at the library with hopes I would forget about my growing fascination.
I didn’t really have the ability to watch what I wanted until I moved out, but once I did, a whole world opened up for me. My education with movies is ongoing. If you notice a real absence of certain movies that “should be on everyone’s list,” it’s likely because I haven’t seen them, and they are still on my list. Even still, I find so much joy in cinema. Many of my top picks aren’t necessarily the definitive best movies of all-time, but are movies I connected with during pivotal moments in my life and that I continue to find inspiring.
