Taking the setup from 47 Meters Down and evolving it can’t have been easy: shark cage, 47 meters (that’s a little over 154 feet for you colonial savages), naive nature enthusiasts and very persistent sea beasts. But evolve it they did as you can see in the new trailer for Entertainment Studios‘ 47 Meters Down: Uncaged.
…I just got what they did there. Enjoy!
So I’m of the opinion that shifting the action from a shark cage to a claustrophobic sunken temple ruin complete with ancient human sacrificial remains is a great notion; normally, the setup falls into the domain of some Indiana Jones-type adventure tale, but these places are meant to be creepy first and foremost (a case of the trope overwhelming the source material) and it gives a great sense of foreboding.
It’s an imaginative step forward.
Directed by the original 47 Meters Down helmer Johannes Roberts, Uncaged stars John Corbett (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before), debut star Sistine Rose Stallone, Brec Bassinger (Stargirl), Corinne Foxx (Sweet/Vicious), Sophie Nélisse (Close) and Brianne Tju (Light as a Feather).
Plot Synopsis:
47 Meters Down: Uncaged hits theatres August 16, 2019.
What do you guys think? Does the idea of swimming into tight corridors and ancient labyrinths and being hunted by murdersharks (with Jason Statham nowhere to be found) sound like your kind of summer vacation?
