Whether you’ve seen it or only heard of it, I think we’re all familiar with the 2009 film Fanboys. It follows a group of friends in 1999 who embark on a mission to break into Skywalker Ranch in an attempt to steal a rough cut of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. The reason being that one of their friends was diagnosed with cancer, and they don’t know if he’ll make it long enough to see the movie.
Well, it looks like a sequel may be in the early stages of development. Adam F. Goldberg (The Goldbergs), who co-wrote the first film, made a couple tweets acknowledging that talks are underway with the film’s director Kyle Newman.

Well done @screenrant for spotting my tweet! I’m meeting with director @kyle_newman this week to discuss Fanboys 2. And randomly @mrdanfogler emailed me last month telling me he wants to get the gang back together. I’ll on it! https://t.co/JBJnEJgOcc

It’s actually insane how much the writers and cast have blown up since 2009. Goldberg has the hit TV comedy The Golbergs, based on his childhood, airing on ABC. Co-writer Ernest Cline wrote Ready Player One and had a hand in the film adaptation directed by Steven Spielberg. And Dan Fogler and Kristen Bell‘s star power has certainly grown in recent years.
Those factors alone would probably be enough to get some eyes on the script. But the cherry on the cake is that the sequel would follow the same group of friends as they attempt to steal the Justice League Snyder Cut.
Altogether that makes for one hell of a film. I’ve never even seen Fanboys but I’d be down for any film that revolves around a heist to attain a copy of the Justice League Snyder Cut. The #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement is still going strong two years later, so this could be the final push the movement needs. Heck, if I was Warner Bros. I’d release Fanboys 2 and see how the good the box office grosses are. If it’s a sizeable hit, it may make all the difference.
Now granted Fanboys made less than $1 million back in 2009, so the odds of this one being a hit are slim. But stranger things have happened. Legacyquels are all the rage right now. And I’m sure it wouldn’t be too hard to rope in Jason Momoa and Zack Snyder for some cameos.
Have you seen Fanboys? Would you rather see the Snyder Cut or a film about stealing the Snyder Cut? Drop a comment and tell us!
