Our mission at SAW is to foster conversations about this thing we all love (or love to hate): film/TV. Many of our features are designed with you in mind. Your opinions, to be more to the point. You have ’em. We want to hear ’em.
Question of the Day (QOTD) is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a film/TV-related question that we put to you, the reader. The comments section below is like the feedback box at work; except, in this example, we actually read what you write and care about what you have to say.
Fast X or The Fast and the Furious 10 or Fast and Furious X or FaXt or whatever it is called is out in theaters now. Behind the scenes here at SAW there has been an ongoing debate about a bunch of stupid shit. And boy is this one stupid. First off it started off with whether or not Caine from John Wick 4 was a better character than Dante from Fast X. Then it turned into whether or not Dante was a better character that John Wick himself. I mean really? WTF?!?!
Oh wait I missed a part, so fuck it here’s the transcription:
Watch Fast X. Caine is good, but he’s not the best character in every scene hes in. Jason Momoa is chewing scenery and having the time of his life. He’s the best part of the movie.
You act like Gen Zers know who Dirty Harry is. In 50 years, no one will remember John Wick unless they rebooted the franchise. Very few things remain pop(ular) in culture. Unless you keep churning out something, it’ll eventually fall into obscurity. (edited)
We ain’t talking about the films popularity
We’re talking about the characters
Fast and the furious is as popular as John Wick is as a franchise but those characters sure aren’t
Because they aren’t instantly identifiable
That black suit and black shirt combo is John Wick now
It’s a Halloween costume
I don’t even know how you’d dress up like Dom
A white tank top?
A wife beater?
I have no idea what he wears
His car is more iconic then he is
They’re not characters that will live in the public consciousness forever
But Wick will because:
You’ve brought out that John Wick is the black suit Halloween costume argument before and I don’t buy it. Dominic Toretto. Bald cap. Wife better. Cross necklace. Boom. Also, it’s weird that you use Halloween costumes as a means to determine who is a popular character. In 20+ years, nobody is gonna know you’re dressing up as John Wick unless you’re also spouting off lines or people know you like John Wick.Women love John Wick? Since when?
I really do believe the easier it is too dress as a character, the longer they’ll live in pop culture
Wick has the black suit, shoulder length hair and beard
That’s a costume
There’s a reason he pops up in video games such as Fortnite and Dom hasn’t
Dom just looks like a dude
And Wick kills people because they killed his dog
That’s a character motivation women can and have gone on board with
I’ve shown these movies to many ladies and they all dig them
I couldn’t pay those same ladies to watch any of the Fast films past 1
Wick is gonna live forever my guy
Dom and the family ain’t
And Alvarez himself called you a dunce for that dumbass opinion
Wick is already famous
Dom isn’t
Like the evidence already exists
He’s not going to suddenly get more famous in 30 years
I will go out in public and conduct a survey proving more people would think of Men in Black than Reservoir Dogs to a group of people in black suits and sunglasses.
I hope you enjoyed reading all of that, because I stopped after a certain point.
So, the question I ask today is: Can you name Ludacris or Tyrese Gibson’s character names in Fast and the Furious franchise?
I haven’t seen either film yet, but I do know that both franchises are the absolute worst at film naming consistency. JW is the winner there, but only by a hair if you ask me.
I hope you enjoyed a sneak peek into the BTS of this site.
Oh Sailor wanted me to add a poll, so here’s a poll.
So what about you, screenagers? Can you name Ludacris or Tyrese Gibson’s character names in Fast and the Furious Franchise?
