Tom Hanks Doesn’t Think Oscars Need Voice Actor Category—Do You Agree?

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Our mission at SAW is to foster conversations about this thing we all love (or love to hate): film/TV. Many of our features are designed with you in mind. Your opinions, to be more to the point. You have ’em. We want to hear ’em.

Question of the Day (QOTD) is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a film/TV-related question that we put to you, the reader. The comments section below is like the feedback box at work; except, in this example, we actually read what you write and care about what you have to say.

Last week, Tom Hanks told Gold Derby that he didn’t think the Academy needed to add a Best Voice Acting category to the Oscars. He explained:

“I think they have enough categories. The truth is, a voice actor can win Best Actor. The judgment is, ‘any performance that moved you.'”

“Even though he does not appear as Andy Serkis, he gives all the raw material for it. There’s been people who have been close to being nominated that do not appear on camera. That could happen to a pure-vocal actor.”

So, the question I ask today is: Do you think the Academy should add a voice acting category or do you agree with Hanks?

I’ll see you in the trenches.
