Syfy has released an official teaser trailer for Chucky. The upcoming TV series from franchise creator Don Mancini is the latest continuation in the Chucky story that began in 1988’s Child’s Play.
Now that’s a good teaser. It’s short and sweet while still featuring snippets of footage from the series and alluding to the slashing that will commence over the 10-episode season.
Also, can I just mention how fucking good Chucky is looking for a 30+ year old doll. His design looked pretty horrendous in those recent DTV sequels, but thankfully it looks like Syfy funded some much needed rejuvenation work.
Mancini actually told Entertainment Weekly that this Chucky doll is based on the version featured in 1990’s Child’s Play 2. His quote:
“Over the years, I’ve heard that the consensus fan favorite among all the movies is Child’s Play 2. I think one of the reasons for that is how Chucky looked in that movie and how the late director John Lafia, who passed away last year, shot Chucky. Our goal with the series was to bring Chucky’s look precisely back to that. Tony Gardner and Peter Chevako (special effects artists responsible for creating the show’s puppets) have done a great job. I think fans are really going to love that.”
Brad Dourif returns as the voice of Chucky as he terrorizes a 14-year-old boy played by Zackary Arthur (Transparent). Other new additions to the cast include Lexa Doig (Jason X) and Devon Sawa (Final Destination) while Jennifer Tilly, Fiona Dourif, Alex Vincent, and Christine Elise reprise their roles from previous films.
Plot Synopsis:
Chucky premieres October 12, 2021 on Syfy.
