Daniel Radcliffe Plans a Prison Break in ‘Escape From Pretoria’ Trailer

Trailers for upcoming Daniel Radcliffe movies seem to be all the rage in January 2020. Not long after the first Guns Akimbo trailer was released, we have a new trailer for Escape From Pretoria.

This movie is based on Tim Jenkin’s autobiography Inside Out: Escape from Pretoria Prison. A love a good true story film, so let’s check this out.

This was a good trailer. It was intense, but didn’t give too much away beyond the basic story goal: escape via wooden keys. The fact this is based on a true story makes me instantly on board.

Radcliffe is using the fact he’s loaded with Harry Potter money to sign on for any film that suits his interests. He’s really diversified his filmography in the decade since Harry Potter ended. I still believe he will be the first actor from that franchise (who was a child back in 2001) to win an Oscar.

Plot Synopsis:

The film tells the true story of Tim Jenkin (Radcliffe) and Stephen Lee (Webber), young, white South Africans branded ‘terrorists’, and imprisoned in 1978 for working covert operations for Nelson Mandela’s banned ANC. Incarcerated in Pretoria Maximum Security Prison, they decide to send the apartheid regime a clear message and escape! With breath-taking ingenuity, meticulous surveillance, and wooden keys crafted for 10 steel doors, they make a bid for freedom. Beyond a thrilling will-they-won’t-they-escape, this is the story of an oppressed majority’s struggle and two ordinary men who stood up to be counted in the pursuit of equality for all.

Escape From Pretoria hits theaters March 6, 2020.
