DC Shocker! James Gunn Out as Warner Bros. Commits to Finishing the SnyderVerse [APRIL FOOLS]

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The people have spoken and Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has listened.

I think we all saw this coming. Following a report earlier this week from The Hollywood Reporter that stated that Zaslav was looking at new heads for Warner Bros. Pictures, Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy have been fired, effective immediately, from their roles as joint heads of WB. Peter Safran will succeed them in the role.

Safran was previously co-CEO of DC Studios with James Gunn. Reportedly, Gunn was blindsided by Safran’s decision to leave DC Studios to take over WB Pictures. The move, which has been in the works since the start of 2025 according to sources, has soured relations between Safran & Zaslav and Gunn. So much, that Gunn has departed DC Studios.

Production on all DC Universe projects has come to a grinding halt. Superman is still on track to be released this summer, but will be marketed as an Elseworlds movie, similar to Matt Reeves’ The Batman. This decision comes amid Zaslav’s desire for Warner Bros. to focus on Big IP instead of filmmaker-driven projects.

Well, there is no bigger IP than Zack Snyder’s DC Extended Universe. The fan-favorite filmmaker is in early talks with WB to resurrect the SnyderVerse, allowing him to finish his vision for the shared universe. The SnyderVerse will reportedly erase most of the DCEU from canon, with only Man of SteelBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and the first Wonder WomanShazam!, and Aquaman movies remaining.

While nothing is official yet, Snyder had visited the set of Lanterns last month and was reportedly impressed with the realistic approach Gunn was taking with the Green Lantern Corps. A decision on whether to shift Lanterns into the SnyderVerse will reportedly be made by the end of April.
