‘Death on the Nile’ Trailer: Every Passenger Has a Motive

20th Century Studios has released a new official trailer for Death on the Nile.

The upcoming adaptation of the 1937 murder mystery novel by Agatha Christie once again stars Kenneth Branagh as world-renowned detective Hercule Poirot. Let’s take a look and see what case he’ll be solving this time.

I quite enjoyed Branagh’s 2017 adaptation of Murder on the Orient Express and was looking forward to this sequel. In addition to directing, I thought Branagh was great as Poirot and the all-star cast he assembled was fun to watch. It looked like all the pieces were in play for Death on the Nile to be another roaring success for 20th Century.

However, numerous delays have pushed this film back from its original 2019 release date. Is the film coming out too late after the 2017 film? Does anyone still care about Hercule Poirot after Knives Out‘s Benoit Blanc took the crown for best eccentric private detective? I’m still interested in seeing Death on the Nile, but I would be pleasantly surprised if Disney / 20th Century greenlights a third Poirot mystery.

In addition to Branagh, Death on the Nile also stars Tom Bateman, Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer, and Letitia Wright. Annette Bening, Russell Brand, Ali Fazal, Dawn French, Rose Leslie, Emma Mackey, Sophie Okonedo, and Jennifer Saunders round out the ensemble cast.

Plot Synopsis:

Belgian sleuth Hercule Poirot’s Egyptian vacation aboard a glamorous river steamer turns into a terrifying search for a murderer when a picture-perfect couple’s idyllic honeymoon is tragically cut short. Set against an epic landscape of sweeping desert vistas and the majestic Giza pyramids, this dramatic tale of love gone wrong features a cosmopolitan group of impeccably dressed travelers and enough wicked twists and turns to leave audiences guessing until the final, shocking denouement.

Death on the Nile hits theaters February 11, 2022.
