‘Death on the Nile’ Trailer: Kenneth Branagh is Back to Solve Another Murder

20th Century Studios has released an official trailer for Death on the Nile. It will be a sequel to the 2017 film Murder on the Orient Express and brings back actor/director Kenneth Branagh as detective Hercule Poirot.

I quite enjoyed Branagh’s first turn as Agatha Christie’s beloved sleuth in 2017’s Murder even if I found the overall plot to be lacking. That film managed to assemble an impressive cast of actors which Death looks to have similarly accomplished. Part of the joy with these murder mysteries is seeing all of these actors play off one another.

Based on the trailer above, I think Death will top Murder and deliver a truly exciting Poirot adventure.

In addition to Branagh, Death on the Nile stars Tom Bateman, Annette Bening, Russell Brand, Ali Fazal, Dawn French, Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer, Rose Leslie, Emma Mackey, Sophie Okonedo, Jennifer Saunders, and Letitia Wright.

Plot Synopsis:

Belgian sleuth Hercule Poirot’s Egyptian vacation aboard a glamorous river steamer turns into a terrifying search for a murderer when a picture-perfect couple’s idyllic honeymoon is tragically cut short. Set against an epic landscape of sweeping desert vistas and the majestic Giza pyramids, this tale of unbridled passion and incapacitating jealousy features a cosmopolitan group of impeccably dressed travelers, and enough wicked twists and turns to leave audiences guessing until the final, shocking denouement.

Death on the Nile hits theaters October 23, 2020.
