In 1984, the Friday the 13th franchise concluded with The Final Chapter. Just kidding. It was brought back the very next year with A New Beginning. Tommy Jarvis is all grown up and tormented by nightmares of Jason Voorhees. Tommy must face his fears when a new hockey mask-wearing murderer initiates another violent killing spree in the area.
Initially envisioned as a new trilogy of films, A New Beginning was poorly received by fans, leading to those plans being scrapped. Fans hated SPOILER the fake-out reveal of Jason Voorhees not being the killer, the whodunnit structure, the extreme nudity and violence, and the decision to turn Tommy into the next Jason.
However, over time, A New Beginning has begun to win over the F13 fandom. They applaud the writers for not cheapening Jason’s death in The Final Chapter by bringing him back to life, and for excitingly evolving Tommy’s story in a way that isn’t just “he’s cool and badass now.” They love the high kill count, the quirky characters, and the twist that divided so many at the time of the movie’s release.
So what do you think? Is Friday the 13th: A New Beginning OverHated or not? Vote and let us know your answer below!
