Here We Go Again, Sony Wants Venom In The MCU

Spider-Man: Far From Home isn’t even out yet and per Screen Rant, there is again talk that Sony is trying to shoehorn Venom into the third film.

We all know that in 2015, Sony and Marvel Studios struck an amazing deal to share custody of Spider-Man so he could finally appear in the MCU, but Sony retained the rights to said character and other Marvel characters they acquired back in the day before the MCU was even a gleam in our eyes. But honestly Sony, you need to give up and stop trying to force feed us Venom like he’s the greatest thing since sliced bread. Let it happen naturally.

The bulk of this rumor this time seems to be coming via mysterious Twitter account and known movie spoiler, Roger Wardell (he apparently spoiled Endgame last December).

Now, I don’t know who this guy is or where he  gets his info from but if he’s right, like he has been, Marvel better not be pushed around by Sony just so they can get their way again. Remember Sam Raimi‘s Spider-Man 3?

Yeah, I try to forget that too.

Even based on that Screen Rant article, I don’t even know how I feel about forcing Deadpool into all of this just yet. He’s a great character, and maybe after the third film they can work him in there, but not just yet. There’s lots of ways Marvel can now introduce their newly regained characters int their universe, but they shouldn’t rush it just for the sake of making a buck. I believe Marvel knows what they are doing and that playing the long game with 22 movies to tell an unbelievable saga, was a smart and unprecedented move that really payed off. I don’t think they will just go all in all willy-nilly now.

Venom may have done well in the box office, but honestly I didn’t think it was that great of a movie. Tom Hardy was great as Eddie Brock, but the movie as a whole felt like it was straight out of the 90’s. But with that origin story being so far removed from Spider-Man, it’s gonna take some real ret-conning to make this work, even with the multiverse being introduced. And don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see Tom Hardy in the MCU. Maybe I’m not giving Sony enough credit and hopefully Marvel will work things out and pull this off over time. Just don’t force/rush it. That’s just my two cents.

What do you guys think about all this talk? Should Venom get introduced into the MCU? Should Disney just buy Sony too?
