Hocus Pocus 3 is officially moving forward at Disney.
According to Deadline, Hocus Pocus 3 is officially in early development with stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy reprising their roles as the Sanderson sisters. Plot details for Hocus Pocus 3 are currently under wraps, although Midler revealed last year that the script is “brilliant.”
A third Hocus Pocus was first announced in 2023 by former President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production Sean Bailey. After he exited the company in 2024, Hocus Pocus 3 was left in limbo.
Deadline‘s sources report that salary negotiations are partially to blame for the wait for Hocus Pocus 3. However, Midler, Parker, and Najimy are reportedly satisfied with whatever Disney is giving them, so it’s now full steam ahead.
Unlike Hocus Pocus 2, which was released straight-to-Disney+ in 2022, Hocus Pocus 3 is expected to receive some form of theatrical distribution.
It’s also currently unclear who will be directing Hocus Pocus 3. Kenny Ortega helmed the 1993 original, while Anne Fletcher sat in the director’s chair for the 2022 sequel. No other stars are attached at this time, although original Hocus Pocus stars Omri Katz, Thora Birch, and Vinessa Shaw — who were absent from Hocus Pocus 2 — have repeatedly expressed interest in reprising their roles.
Both Hocus Pocus films are available to stream on Disney+.
