Universal is all in on remaking the animated How to Train Your Dragon trilogy.
Per Deadline, the studio announced during its CinemaCon presentation that a live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon 2 had been greenlit. A release date was also announced, with the sequel set to hit theaters on June 11, 2027.
The sequel news comes ahead of the first How to Train Your Dragon live-action remake, which hits theaters this June. Directed by Dean DeBlois, who also helmed the animated trilogy of DreamWorks Animation movies, the live-action movie is a faithful, shot-for-shot remake of 2010’s How to Train Your Dragon. It’s so faithful in fact that they brought back Gerard Butler to reprise his role as Stoick the Vast.
