Our mission at SAW is to foster conversations about this thing we all love (or love to hate): film/TV. Many of our features are designed with you in mind. Your opinions, to be more to the point. You have ’em. We want to hear ’em.
Question of the Day (QOTD) is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a film/TV-related question that we put to you, the reader. The comments section below is like the feedback box at work; except, in this example, we actually read what you write and care about what you have to say.
The Primetime Emmy Awards were last night. The Bear took home several awards in the Comedy category, including Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor. At the previous awards ceremony, the series had won Outstanding Comedy Series, as well as a trio of acting categories.
However, a lot of people don’t think The Bear should be competing in the Comedy category, believing it is more Drama than Comedy. It’s become such a talking point that last night’s Emmy co-host Eugene Levy made a joke (sort of) about it.
"I know some of you might be expecting us to make a joke about whether The Bear is really a comedy…but in the true spirit of The Bear we will not be making any jokes"

With many arguing that there are far more worthy shows that should be awarded that actually tell jokes, are funny, and/or give great comedic performances, the question I ask today is: is The Bear more comedy than drama?
I haven’t seen the show, but I find it hard to believe that The Bear is funnier than Only Murders in the Building. Ain’t no way Jeremy Allen White is giving a better comedic performance than Martin Short or Steve Martin.
So what about you, screenagers? Do you think The Bear should be competing as a Comedy Series instead of as a Drama Series?
I’ll see you in the trenches.
