Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina Join ‘The Little Mermaid’ Remake

Hot off the flippers of Melissa McCarthy being in talks for Urusla, Variety reports that Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina have signed on to play Flounder (the fish) and Scuttle (the bird) in Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.

While I’m still not 100 per cent sold on McCarthy as Ursula (the first name that pops to mind for me is Kathy Bates), I think Jacob Trembaly is perfect for Flounder. He’s got that youthful, naive personality down pat that goes fin-in-fin with Flounder. (Are the fish puns getting tiresome already?)

Rob Marshall is set to direct The Little Mermaid, after having directed Mary Poppins Returns for Disney. The remake will incorporate new songs from original composer Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda, alongside the classic hits from 1989.

That’s all we know for now. We’ll keep you updated as we continue our journey under the sea.

What do you think of the casting so far? Are you getting tired of these Disney remakes?
